SPECTER DEFEATED

Upon arriving in town Friday night the adventurers found it abandoned and crawling with undead.  Only Lord Arianus remained and he was safe within his Celestial Circle at the rear of the Yawning Dragon.  Most of the players bravely went to face the ghoul and zombies but a few of the more cowardly ones hid within the tavern.  Hearing all of the commotion Lord Arianus emerged from his chambers and immediately began questioning the newcomers concerning the whereabouts of Sheriff Angus Ebonheart.  None seemed to know where the highlander was.  Arianus, disturbed by this news, returned to his quarters promptly.  He returned later to inform some members of the populace of the situation.

It seems that Lord Arianus had arrived in town a few days earlier and had determined the situation to be beyond his control.  He successfully sneaked into the Yawning Dragon and the Celestial Circle to contemplate the dilemma.  Over the next few nights he sneaked out into the town and found that the undead were coming from the Earth Circle.  He also learned of the Specter and his minions.  Much more was to be learned later with the help of one Arianus simply called The Seer.

First, it was determined that the Specter was there against his will and he continued to haunt the town as a result of it.  This was accentuated by the fact that he continuously asked for a medallion.  When a messenger arrived demanding that town leaders follow it a group quickly formed.  Indigo Questarius, Dinen Davere, Thistle the Hobling and many others accompanied the apparition to the top of town and the enormous rock which overlooks the Shadowgate River.  As the apparition drew near to the stone a magical portal began to glow.  One by one the group entered into the doorway.

As they adjusted to the dim lighting, the heroes’ eyes locked onto an Elven corpse seated within.  Wearing a crown this undead lord raised his head and began to speak.  He said that he was an ancient Elven King and that he was trapped by no other than Dannacus himself.  He had a medallion which controlled the Specter and would gladly trade it in return for his bottle of essence.  Upon hearing these things Lord Arianus sent for The Seer to use his special gift of sight to aid in locating the bottle.  When the old man arrived his revelations were neither clear nor helpful.

During this time the town had been made safe again for the commoners to return and so Lord Arianus sent his newly appointed mayor, Kern Darkway, to meet with them and persuade them to come back.  Kern and his party encountered some trouble in the form of a Medusa and most of them, including Kern, were turned to stone.  Upon hearing of this Lord Arianus, Dinen Davere, Chalene Silvermoure and a few noble others were led by Kiche’ Golden Claw the Sarr to the cave.  Upon their arrival they discovered that the one known as Joseph had slain the Medusa and all was well.  Among the treasure found within was a glowing bottle.  When Lord Arianus was presented with this he stared in awe and said that it was the one which they sought.

Lord Arianus, Kern, Dinen, Chalene, and the others left the cave without acquiring any treasure and hurried off into the night.  When they arrived at the tavern some time later they told all those present to be patient and await the coming of the Specter.  When the Specter arrived Kern showed the medallion and as the apparition approached to retrieve it Lord Arianus imprisoned the creature.  The Specter’s minions immediately attacked but were easily defeated.  The Specter was later disposed of.

LORD ARIANUS SPEAKS

I, Lord Arianus, High Wizard of Galavast, am pleased to announce the appointment of Kern Darkway as Mayor of Galavast.  He is in all respects a capable leader and should be treated with the same respect and loyalty that you all have shown myself and Sheriff Angus.  He is to act on my behalf when I am away from Galavast and any wrongs done against him or Angus will be punished severely.

Also, let it be known that I no longer seek an apprentice.  That position has been filled by one Dinen Davere.  I have been approached and am currently considering the formation of a Celestial Casters’ Guild within Galavast.  Many capable casters will be needed and you will benefit greatly.

EARTH CIRCLE HEALED

Saturday evening saw Lord Arianus, Dinen, Palagon, Garrett, and others repair the Earth Circle.  The others kept watch while Lord Arianus performed a ritual which stopped the undead from channeling into the circle.  This dilemma was apparently linked to the Specter’s presence.
